“ Whenever I visit Alameda, I request a trip to Speisekammer for delicious German Food. The restaurant inside is very cozy and warm but it is pretty large and can accommodate large parties. I prefer to sit outside in the summer and inside during the winter. I prefer if with a small group to dine in the vibrant bar area. The restaurant was sold about 7 months ago and I was worried things might have changed. Much to my delight, they have not. Service is alway spot on. My favorites: Spätzel - ask them to cook it a bit longer so it gets crunchy on top. The potato pancakes are out of this world! Served with applesauce and ask for sour cream on the side too. The appetizer of pork sausages on top of sour kraut. Yum! The pork schnitzel served with roasted potatoes is delicious. Not greasy at all. Their german salad which is pickled carrots, beats, cucumbers and cabbage pairs well with most all of their menu options. And many of the entree's come with the salad. Portions are big and great to share. And don't forget they do a month long OctoberFest celebration!!!! ”

“ Nice German spot across the street from Subpar in Alameda. Kids menu is extensive and good. I liked the service and they had a nice table for the 8 of us - 4 kids and 4 adults. The chicken snitzel entree was huge! The bratwurst was good and I liked the sauerkraut. Kids enjoyed their cheeseburger and chicken tenders. The beers were also good and in generous sizes glass cups. Mashed potatoes were savory and fluffy. Good option for people looking for a walkable option for a meal after, during or before subpar! ”

“ Loved the authentic dutch food. Love the Atmosphere , great portions , great prices, enough food , fresh ingredients. My chicken schnitzel was bomb full of flavor, the oil that schnitzel has been fried in was clarified butter I guess. The taste was super delicious and new. Love the pickles salad, it is so salty and crunchy under my tooth. Overall I visit this place in couple of month. ”

“ Came to Speisekammer on a Saturday night for the Krampus St. Nick evening. At first, they said they couldn't accommodate our party of 6 even though we had called more than once to discuss the rain and no outdoor seating (to make sure they could take us before we came from San Jose). After about 15 minutes of waiting, they figured it out and sat us in the back. It was the first time for many of us and we were sooooo pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious! Everything tasted fresh, and nothing was greasy. The portions are humongous, but they are also pricey, so don't expect a cheap meal. I was very happy to see multiple vegetarian options and enjoyed everything we ordered. The meat eaters really enjoyed it and had that look on their face when they were chewing. The potato pancakes are AMAZING! The pretzels and beer cheese are amazing! The vegetable trio is cooked perfectly and has a great flavor. The chicken schnitzel is breast meat that's crispy, moist, and not oily at all. My friend got the smoked pork shank and was in total heaven. We will absolutely be back as it was great for all! The only drawback is the noise. It's a very loud environment and makes it a scootch difficult for hearing aid wearers. The staff is very nice and all of the orders came out correctly. Yum yum... ”

“ I love this German restaurant so much. We try to make a trip here every 6 months to a year and be sure to bring my friend's mom and my parents. This time my mom wasn't able to come, she has dementia and has been slipping away. But we still brought my dad and had a great time with my best friends, my brother, my husband and friend's lovely mom. I am all about the sausages here. I love the Nurnberger sausages $18 and this time I added a side of Brat $10. They are extremely generous with the sauerkraut. Other good sides are the spaetzle, red cabbage and fries. ”

“ This place is the first German restaurant that I've found. Actually my son found it. The food was very good. The chicken schnitzel was served with roasted potatoes cooked with bacon and onions. They were very very tasty. My son got the meatballs and mustard gravy. They were Alex very delicious. My daughter-in-law got sausage with sauerkraut which also was a delicious sausage. We sat outside because my son had his two dogs with him. We sat at the picnic tables outside. They were comfortable. The staff were very friendly. ”

“ This was my first visit, and I was very impressed! The place is small looking but has a large indoor series of areas for dining. Although facing a busy street, we sat on the patio, which was very relaxed and relatively quiet. The menu was extensive, and the food options were too many, so I basically decided on two new dishes for me: the potato pancakes (Reibekuchen) and Gratinierte Kasespatzle - mac 'n cheese - with cheddar-parmesan cheese and caramelized onions, with a side salad for the large size. Salad was a combination German salad with shredded cabbage, dill cucumber, pickled red beets and marinated carrots. One of my companions had the Lachs Croquettes, salmon coquettes on a bed of mixed greens, and the other had the Aufschnittplätte, which is a combination of assorted German cold cuts, including mortadella with pistachios, soppressata, coppa, salami, summer sausage with herbed goat cheese, onions, cornichons and sliced baguette. Of course, we also enjoyed three German draft beers: the HB lager, the Paulanger, and the Spaten lager. All were coldly delicious! The potato pancakes came first, and I expected them to be shredded flat, but they were more like hash brown sheds but smaller. Tasty fried and served with apple sauce on the side for dipping or spreading. The rest of the food came shortly after. The servings were impressive, for both the plating and volume. The salad was delicious, and I mixed the veggies for each bite. The mac 'n cheese was different, very creamy yet subtle in its cheese. One person at home had a taste of the half I took home and called it "bland." I liked it, but if y9ou are used to mac 'n cheese with sharp cheddar, for example, it may be too "subtle" for you. But again, I liked it very much as a change. I did not taste the other plates, except for the herbed goat cheese. Wow. VERY creamy and with a strong herbal taste, which I could only think of as a rosemary type - maybe juniper? Odd that I could not place the herb(s) but very good. And if you have a dog, please bring it! Not only are they welcome, but they also have a menu dinner dish for dogs! It is dog food but sounds fancier in German. The service was attentive and friendly, and added to a great overall experience. If you have not tried German food, this is a good place to break yourself in slowly. You'll tell me "Vielen dank für den vorshlag!" ”
